Pending Home Sales Surge Continuing (by Realtor.org) June 02, 2010 Pending home sales have risen for three consecutive months, reflecting the broad impact of the home buyer tax credit and favorable housing affordability conditions, according to the National Association of Realtors®. The Pending Home Sales Index,* a forward-looking indicator, rose 6.0 percent to 110.9 based on contracts signed in April, from an upwardly revised 104.6 in March, and is 22.4 percent higher than April 2009 when it was 90.6. That follows gains of 7.1 percent in March and 8.3 percent in February.
Parking Danger
Even if the weather is cool, it's still not safe to leave your pet in the car. As long as the sun is shining, a car acts like a greenhouse, with the temperature rising to dangerous levels within a half hour. Cracking a window or running the air conditioning before parking only delays the rise in temperature for a matter of minutes. Never leave a pet unattended in the car for more than a few minutes.
Growing Healthy Roses You don’t have to be an expert to grow lush, beautiful roses. But it helps to know some of the dos and don’ts. Start with healthy plants When you buy plants of any type, make sure they have clean, pest and disease-free foliage and a healthy root system. A careful visual inspection should help you avoid bringing home plants with problems. If you’re not sure, check with The Home Depot staff. Where’s the sunshine Site your roses where they will get plenty of sunshine (4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight minimum, 8 is even better). Good air circulation is also key and will help reduce disease problems including powdery mildew. This means don’t plant roses too close to one another. A well-drained soil that has been amended with generous amounts of organic soil amendments like compost, whether bagged or homemade, will give your roses a jump start. Add additional soil amendments each spring and fall. |
wiring and multiple phone lines for personal computers and home offices, and master suites with his and her bathrooms, soaking tubs, rainforest showers and well-organized walk-in closets. Buyers want to work with savvy sellers. Sellers who know what their home is worth, list a property in top showing condition and are willing to give concessions to the buyer when negotiating the terms of the purchase agreement are more likely to be successful.
Pending home sales are at the highest level since last October when the index reached 112.4 and first-time buyers were rushing to beat the initial deadline for the tax credit. The data reflects contracts and not closings, which usually occur with a lag time of one or two months. Lawrence Yun, NAR chief economist, said this second round of surging sales from the tax credit extension looks as strong as the original tax credit. “There were concerns that only a small pool of buyers were left to take advantage of the tax credit extension. But evidently the tax stimulus, combined with improved consumer (More)

A steady diet of good food With all those gorgeous flowers, it should be no surprise that roses like to eat. For the best blooms, roses need fertilizer on a regular basis throughout the growing season. If you live in a climate with intense summer heat, reduce the amount by half, but not the frequency during June, July and August. Water At least once a week. In hot climates, roses may need water daily. Newly planted roses Apply chemical fertilizers only after the first blooms appear. Water your roses, apply the fertilizer, then water again. How often Fertilize a minimum of once a month. If you are dedicated and want big blooms, fertilize once every two weeks. Use a product like Peters® or (More) |

Sudoku The New Addiction! Just in case you've never played before. The object of the game is to fit the numbers 1-9 in the correct orders. You need to fill a number from 1 to 9 in every blank cell. A number must appear only once in each row, column and 3x3 block. Sounds easy enough. Don't give up. Once you get the hang of it, its very fun and challenges your brain. (If you don't see the game on the left please try refreshing your screen. You can use F5 or your refresh button.) |
