Can Your Cat Be Allergic To You We know that cats can spark allergy and asthma attacks in some humans. But can cats be allergic to people? Yes, they can, but it typically happens indirectly. Human dandruff can set off an attack in cats, but the more common culprits are household irritants such as dust, secondhand smoke, and kitty litters with a high dust content (especially when used with a covered litter box). All of these can trigger an asthma attack in cats that suffer from the condition or can put cats at greater risk of developing asthma in the first place. Cats with allergic rhinitis may also be sensitive to such allergens, which can heighten inflammation in a cat's upper airways. (Learn why smoking indoors also puts your cat at a four times greater risk of cancer.) How can feline asthma be prevented? Eliminating or minimizing possible household allergens is the first step to preventing the development of feline asthma or asthma attacks, which can be life threatening to your cat. (More)

Use the grid - The “Rule of Thirds” is a time-honored visual principle to help guide your viewer’s eye to what is important in a photo. The rule calls for placing the main object(s) of a photo either one-third from the bottom, the top, the left or the right. Check to see if your digital camera includes a 3X3 grid overlay feature that you can enable on the LCD screen. This grid can be instrumental in finding the right balance for your photo. Be aware of any distracting elements - Unless you are aiming for a shot where everyone gets a good laugh, be aware of what is happening in the background. For instance, watch that you don’t have a Christmas tree growing out of the top of your subject’s head. Buying a camera with a large LCD screen with an auto-adjust LCD brightness feature can help you better spot these types of distractions to avoid them completely. Did you know? Based on studies in the 1980s and 1990s The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that up to two thirds of the fertilizers applied to lawns each year is wasted. It is lost to the air or runs off into streams and storm drains, where it contributes to water pollution. What can I do? Lawns require more nitrogen fertilizer than other garden plants to stay green and healthy. You can provide about 1/3 of the nitrogen your lawn needs simply by leaving grass clippings on the lawn after mowing. (More)

Sudoku The New Addiction! Just in case you've never played before. The object of the game is to fit the numbers 1-9 in the correct orders. You need to fill a number from 1 to 9 in every blank cell. A number must appear only once in each row, column and 3x3 block. Sounds easy enough. Don't give up. Once you get the hang of it, its very fun and challenges your brain. (If you don't see the game on the left please try refreshing your screen. You can use F5 or your refresh button.) |
